The circumstances of the beginning events

Sād (Saad)

وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُولِي الْأَيْدِي وَالْأَبْصَارِ {٤٥}

Remember Our slaves: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob – men of strength and insight.

إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَاهُمْ بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ {٤٦}

We chose them exclusively for the remembrance of the Final Home.

وَإِنَّهُمْ عِنْدَنَا لَمِنَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ الْأَخْيَارِ {٤٧}

Indeed, they are before us among the chosen and best ones.

وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ وَكُلٌّ مِنَ الْأَخْيَارِ {٤٨}

Also remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl – all were among the best.

هَذَا ذِكْرٌ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَآَبٍ {٤٩}

This is a reminder. And the righteous will surely have a good return:

جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ مُفَتَّحَةً لَهُمُ الْأَبْوَابُ {٥٠}

Gardens of Eternity, with gates wide open for them.

مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ {٥١}

They will recline therein, calling for abundant fruit and drink

وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ {٥٢}

And they will have maidens of modest gaze and equal age.

هَذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ {٥٣}

This is what you are promised for the Day of Account.

إِنَّ هَذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُ مِنْ نَفَادٍ {٥٤}

Indeed, this is Our provision [for the righteous] that will never cease.

هَذَا وَإِنَّ لِلطَّاغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَآَبٍ {٥٥}

Indeed, this is Our provision [for the righteous] that will never cease.

جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ {٥٦}

Hell, where they will burn. What a terrible resting place!

هَذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ {٥٧}

Let them taste this: scalding water and pus,

وَآَخَرُ مِنْ شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَاجٌ {٥٨}

and other similar [torments] of various kinds.

هَذَا فَوْجٌ مُقْتَحِمٌ مَعَكُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًا بِهِمْ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُوا النَّارِ {٥٩}

[The misleaders will say], “Here is a crowd of people being thrown in with you. There is no welcome for them; they will surely burn in the Fire.”

قَالُوا بَلْ أَنْتُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًا بِكُمْ أَنْتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا فَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ {٦٠}

They will say, “No, it is you for whom there is no welcome! You brought this on us. What a terrible place to settle in!”

قَالُوا رَبَّنَا مَنْ قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا فِي النَّارِ {٦١}

They will say, “Our Lord, whoever brought this on us, give him double punishment in the Fire.”

وَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَى رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُمْ مِنَ الْأَشْرَارِ {٦٢}

They will say, “Why do we not see those whom we considered to be among the wicked?

أَتَّخَذْنَاهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ الْأَبْصَارُ {٦٣}

Is it that we mistakenly made fun of them, or do our eyes fail to see them [in the Fire]?

إِنَّ ذَلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ {٦٤}

This is certainly true that the people of the Fire will dispute among themselves.

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا مُنْذِرٌ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَهٍ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ {٦٥}

Say [O Prophet], “I am only a warner, and none has the right to be worshiped except Allah, the One, the Subjugator,

رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ {٦٦}

Lord of the heavens and earth and all that is between them, the All-Mighty, Most Forgiving.”

قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِيمٌ {٦٧}

Say, “This [Qur’an] is of great importance

أَنْتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ {٦٨}

from which you are turning away.”

مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِالْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَى إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ {٦٩}

[And say], “I had no knowledge of the highest assembly [of angels] when they were disputing [about Adam].

إِنْ يُوحَى إِلَيَّ إِلَّا أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ {٧٠}

I have only received revelation in order to give a clear warning.”

إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِنْ طِينٍ {٧١}

[Remember] when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to create a human being from clay.

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ {٧٢}

When I completed his creation and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down in prostration to him.”

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ {٧٣}

Then the angels fell down in prostration all together,

إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ {٧٤}

except Iblīs, who was arrogant and became one of the disbelievers.

قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ {٧٥}

[Allah] said, “O Iblīs, what prevented you from prostrating to whom I created with My two Hands? Did you just become proud or have you always been arrogant?”

قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِنْ نَارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِنْ طِينٍ {٧٦}

He said, “I am better than him: You created me from fire and created him from clay.”

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ {٧٧}

[Allah] said, “Then get out of here, for you are accursed,

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَى يَوْمِ الدِّينِ {٧٨}

and My curse will be upon you until the Day of Judgment.”

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنْظِرْنِي إِلَى يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ {٧٩}

He said, “My Lord, then give me respite until the Day of their resurrection.”

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ {٨٠}

Allah said, “You are given respite,

إِلَى يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ {٨١}

until the Day of the appointed time.”

قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ {٨٢}

Iblīs said, “By Your Might, I will surely mislead them all,

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ {٨٣}

except Your chosen slaves among them.”

قَالَ فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ {٨٤}

Allah said, “Such is the truth – and I only say the truth –

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكَ وَمِمَّنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ {٨٥}

that I will certainly fill Hell with you and those of them who follow you all together.”

قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ {٨٦}

Say [O Prophet], “I do not ask you for any reward for it, nor do I pretend to be what I am not.

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ {٨٧}

It is only a reminder for all people.

وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ {٨٨}

And you will surely know its truth after a while.”
